Although aircraft batteries aren’t always high on our list of things to worry about, their performance and life span have been an ever-increasing topic within the industry. As we come to the end of yet another Summer, it is important to discuss ways in which you can protect your aircrafts battery, during the coming months of possible downtime and/or extended storage. The aviation specific 12-volt and 24-volt BatteryMINDer chargers have a temperature sensor that keeps voltages optimized for storage environments, which will benefit batteries in both hot and cold hangars. Temperature sensors have been around a long time, but have previously been restricted to high-end chargers used for multiple deepcycle battery setups. Some chargers have a temperature sensor capability built into the charger itself, but this is a poor second to a ring terminal actually attached to the battery, such is the case with the BatteryMINDer. The aviation charger models sense the battery temperature and protect the battery from getting too hot, as well as adjusting the charger for the ambient external battery temperature.

Charger operation is silent and the weatherproof case is a plus for damp or humid environments. The unit is light, small and has a selection of useful options, such as ring terminals with a quick disconnect so you can easily switch back to quick clamps. The chargers have all the popular smart charger functions, including non-sparking connections, reverse polarity protection and an auto-soft start to protect deeply discharged batteries from high inrush current. This month’s announcement is another step forward by the owners of deHavilland Dreams to become the premier outfitter for seaplane related merchandise both within the United States, and internationally. DeHavilland Dreams Exhibits at the 2011 MSPA Safety Seminar Fly-In

Last November, we committed to increasing DeHavilland Dreams visibility throughout the industry in 2011. We believe the first place to start is at the local level. The Minnesota Seaplane Pilots Association (MSPA)has been around for several years and hosts an annual safety seminar fly-in. The past several years, the safety seminar has taken place at Madden's on Gull Lake. So, this year, DeHavilland Dreams decided it was time to formerly introduce ourselves and exhibit at the conference.

We arrived early on Friday afternoon to partly sunny skies and a beautiful resort and lodge at Madden's. Our first time there. And, what better way to go, than to stay in a rustic lakeshore lodge overlooking an entire shoreline of beached seaplanes! There had to be 20+ seaplanes right outside our patio door. We were in HEAVEN!!!

This year's seminar was slightly muted by the weather, which was cloudy and cool much of the weekend. Yet, the seminar still recorded attendance of approximately 200+ pilots. We had a great time. And even better, made some great new contacts.

"Thank You" to those of you who stopped by our exhibit. And, an even larger "Thank You" to those of you who gave us your business. We hope to see you all again in 2012!

As some of you may know, I have been touring some local airfields in Minnesota and Western Wisconsin in search of our first official office and retail shop. On a recent visit to our local UPS store in Hudson, Wisonsin, a chance meeting turned into a potential opportunity. There I met Darrel Gibson of St. Croix Valley Aviation, LLC. Darrel is a former Northwest mechanic who has gone into business for himself and owns a modern and very promising maintenance shop at Osceola Airport. Darrel invited my wife and I to tour the airport this past weekend.

Founded in 1948, L.O. Simenstad Field (CTAF 122.9 & AWOS 119.925), located in Osceola, Wisconsin, is a local public airfield hosting a variety of aircraft including King Air, twins, singles, light sport, ultralights and gliders. Under the direction of airport commissioner Philip Mattison, the airfield recently underwent a runway extension on L-10 to 5,005 feet and accomodating 30,000lb gross weight. The airport shows great potential and growth for both private pilots and aviation enthusiasts, but also small corporate charter jets.

Special "thank you" to our hosts last weekend. Mike Carver of "Everything Aviation, LLC for taking the time to show us his operations and letting our daughters sit in the honored Piper P-18 Super Cub he was working on. And, Darrel Gibson of St. Croix Valley Aviation, LLC for a tour of his new modern maintenance facility. We had a great time and look forward to seeing you all out at the airfield again this Spring.

HUDSON, WISCONSIN., November 23, 2010 – DeHavilland Dreams, Inc announced the addition of several new items to their "Passenger Shop" this week. The new products include six new t-shirt designs and three new mouse pads.

“I’m extremely excited about the launch of our new products”, said Christopher Busch, owner of deHavilland Dreams, Inc. “The t-shirt line is something we've been anticipating all year. We decided it was worth the investment to develop our own t-shirt designs in-house, avoiding the limitations of outside vendors and decreasing the direct cost to our customers.”

DeHavilland Dreams Announces New RC Floatplane Section

SAVAGE, MINN., February 5, 2010 – DeHavilland Dreams, Inc announced their new RC (Radio Controlled) Floatplane section within its online E-Base this week. The new RC Floatplane section hosts a Beaver DHC-2 and a J-3 Cub radio controlled floatplanes.

This month’s announcement is a move by deHavilland Dreams to change flight plans, focusing more of their attention on retail sales of seaplane plastic models, RC floatplanes and seaplane enthusiast apparel throughout 2010.

“One of my frustrations growing up was never being able to find seaplane merchandise and models at our local hobby stores and model shops,” said Christopher Busch, owner of deHavilland Dreams, Inc. “The internet has certainly helped increase a person’s options. Our goal moving forward is to be the central hub, where seaplane companies, pilots and enthusiasts can find a wide variety of seaplane merchandise and gear. Our new RC Floatplane section is the first of many steps in that direction.”

The new radio controlled section will start by hosting two floatplanes. The Beaver DHC-2 25e ARF is part of a platinum series delivering superior, enhanced features and meticulous attention to detail. The kit includes corrugated flight surfaces, concealed tail linkages and a scale dummy motor. Enthusiasts will admire the scale color scheme, pre-painted fiberglass cowl, and genuine UltraCote® covering provided with the kit. Constructed of lightweight balsa and plywood, the Beaver is impressive in size as well as detail, with a wingspan of 68 inches and an overall length of 43 inches.

We are pleased to be writing to you, and celebrating our 1st year of being in business. Thank you to all of our past and present customers, friends and family for your support and business. We wish you a very safe and happy 2009.

Well, like any company, we are constantly looking for ways to better ourselves. And so, over the past several (cold) months, we have been busy evaluating our entire stock of merchandise. DEHAVILLAND DREAMS, INC LAUNCHS NEW ONLINE AVIATION E-BASE...

BURNSVILLE, MINN., March 12, 2008- DeHavilland Dreams, Inc. announced this week the launch of their new online aviation E-Base. The site (www.deHavillanddreams.com) will be a one-stop-shop for seaplane apparel, aviation gear and accessories.

DeHavilland Dreams new E-Base was designed to focus on the needs of a specific niche–seaplane pilots, companies and enthusiasts. The products follow suit with a wide variety of aviation gear, apparel, model airplanes, safety & survival gear, GPS and more at affordable prices.

Different than most other online aviation stores, deHavilland Dreams will also offer its customers marketing expertise that will help to advertise their companies and services.

“There are many sites and products that advertise to airline pilots, but few are marketed directly towards Bush Pilots and Seaplane Businesses. We plan on changing that,” Busch explained.

After several customers inquired about additional aviation gear and products, deHavilland Dreams decided in January of 2008 to expand their products by opening an online aviation shop. In January 2008, the company became a Minnesota distributor of Aviall aviation products from such manufacturers as David Clark, Telex, ASA, and Sigtronics. To ensure secure and confidential purchasing features for its customers, DeHavilland Dreams then contracted All Metro Merchant Services to establish top-of-the-line online payment methods with Visa, Master Card, and Discover this past February.

Dehavilland Dreams has since positioned itself to be the premier outfitter for seaplane pilots, companies and enthusiasts. And they haven't forgotten their roots!
